At Macky Movement, it is all about fitness, function and fun.

We believe that training is about much more than just having abs…It’s a life-style. It’s about releasing those endorphins, it’s about meeting new people, it’s about self care and is the perfect use of your precious ‘me time’. At Macky movement we approach training differently. With our holistic approach, we don’t just transform bodies, we transform lives. We want each client to leave a training session feeling invigorated and motivated. We can’t promise walking back down the stair will be easy, but it will be worth it #legday!

Straight out of Steven’s mouth

I’ve been a sportsman my whole life, sport has been the central focus in my life since I was 5 years old. Even though I loved all sports, rugby was always the game I excelled in. At the age of 16 I had already made up my mind that I wanted to pursue rugby as a profession, being granted a scholarship to play rugby and study when I left school. Unfortunately, at the age of 17, due to a near fatal motorbike accident my rugby career came to a screeching halt. After a year of recovery I had to concede that my dream of being a professional rugby player was over.

After my accident I started training in the gym as part of my recovery. The gym was the only thing that kept me going. My passion for training grew with every result I saw, with every gain made. Before I could catch myself, the bug had bitten. I knew that this was what I wanted to do for the rest of my life. And so, my fitness journey began.

I wake up every day, at 4am, excited and enthusiastic knowing that I get to do what I love every day! I was born to be a personal trainer. I’m a goal-driven individual who has never backed down from a challenge. So, believe me when I say I will do whatever it takes to help you achieve your goals. I’ve got a passion for people and helping others achieve their goals, whether it be to slim down, bulk up or get their endorphins pumping. We will find the training that best suits your lifestyle, whether it be boxing and crossfit or weight training, whether you’re trying to stay fit while pregnant, or recovering from pregnancy, I’m the man for the job.

The daily workouts I provide for my clients is not only about physical capability, It goes beyond that. The mental approach to training is what makes you really grow as an individual. So that is where my focus lies. It teaches you something about yourself. Let me show you a character you didn’t know you had. Let me help you do things you didn’t think you were capable of.

Where are you based?

How would you describe your training style?

We love anything fitness, so focus on boxing, sport-specific training, high performance and goal-specific type training. Go have a look at our Instagram page @mackytrainerx or @mackymovement for more examples.

What does your personal training packages include?

Prices include your gym membership, app subscription with daily workouts, a personalised meal-plan and a monthly body assessment done by a qualified biokineticist.

Do you offer any one-on-one personal training?

Not at the moment, we focus on small group training (max. 6 people per group unless more is requested)

How do you decide which group I do train with?

I like to group different people with similar goals together, but at the same time need to look at what times I can accommodate you. In the end, everyone is there for the same reason: to get fit and enjoy the process!

What if I have an injury?

Depending on the type of injury and the stage of healing, we can create programs that limit or avoid stress to the affected site. We can also develop corrective exercise strategies to improve mobility, joint stabilization, connective tissue strength and flexibility. However, no corrective exercise or post rehabilitation program delivered by any of the trainers is intended to diagnose, treat or cure any disease or mechanical malalignment. Within our scope of practice, we will work with you to fine tune a progressive program provided by a practitioner.

Can I cancel anytime?

We hate to see you go! However, yes, and only one calendar month notice is required. We recommend that you do so in writing by email or WhatsApp.

How long until I see results?

Ah! One question every trainer receives from new clients is “how long will it take for me to see results.” While we believe that for most people, following our programmes and methods will lead to desired results, all exercise programs depend on the individual and the specific goals of that client.

What if I’m injured, sick or away for a session?

We offer catch up sessions within 30 days of your missed sessions. however the days and times will be dependant on existing groups as our goal is to keep group[s to a maximum of 6 people.

Is there a sign up fee?

I’ve never really enjoyed exercising before. But after the birth of my daughter I decided maybe a trainer would help kick my ass into gear, so in 2019 I started boxing with Steve as a way to get fit and lose some baby weight, but it ended up being so much more than fitness. I struggled with PPD after my daughter was born and It helped lift the cloud of depression, combining both Steve’s energetic personality and the fitness element was honestly addictive.

He trained me up to 36 weeks of pregnancy with my second child, adapting group exercises to be pregnancy safe for me. It made getting back again after pregnancy so much easier and a lot more fun.

Almost 3 years later and I’m still excited for my sessions.

That being said to think I joined your online training app last year in July just after having my 1st baby and when I look at myself now I'm so proud to see how far I’ve come. When I started I told you my goal weight was 65 kgs and I started off on 81 kgs today I am 67kgs just 2 kgs short of my goal weight and that I take full responsibility for because you know life happens and we cheat but we get back onto the wagon and that's what matters most. Smashing our goals improves our health.

On December 2012 I fell and hurt my hip. Went to physio and chiropractor, but the pain and difficulty with walking did not get better.
As I, Vera Hiltemann, was a member of Virgin Active at that time I looked for a personal trainer and in February 2013 I met Steven McLeod, who offered to help me.
After about a month of training under his supervision I could walk up stairs without difficulty again.
Since then I have been training 3 times a week. It helped and is still helping me to be a fitter person. Steven makes sure that I don't over do the exercises and I enjoy it every time again.
My family and friends see what a change those exercises have done to me.

I put on a total of 50 kgs since marrying my husband and having a baby. Before I got married , I would run 10km a day and on days I didn’t run I would gym twice a day. I just couldn’t get myself back into exercising again, I didn’t want to run , I didn’t want to “gym” but I knew I needed to do something.

As my child was getting more mobile , I struggled to be the mom I wanted to be; running after her or simply picking her up was exhausting.

After lockdown in September I started boxing with Steve , much to my resistance. I was insecure about my body and struggling to try and find my new identity since become a mother. Being around someone I didn’t know, I was scared and felt extremely vulnerable but I went and I’m so glad I did. I was hooked from the start. Boxing is like nothing I have done before. It has helped me with my anxiety, stress as well as the extra bonus of losing weight. I am a better person because of it. I go home after every session recharged.

I do it for me, for just that one hour , it’s just banter there is no talking about work or my child, I can be just me. Steve is an awesome coach and an even better person. He pushes you because he believes in you. He takes the time to get to know you on a personal level which allows you to be more relaxed when you are training with him.

I have lost a total of 25kgs since starting but that’s the bonus, what is the real reward is being able to be the mom and person I have wanted to be. Steve has been a huge part of my weight loss journey as well as my mental health journey. To find a coach that can help you with both is rare.

This year I met Steve, my now boxing trainer at GetFit Westville. I have always been extremely shy to join any training, however from day one, both Steve and his clients made me feel extremely welcome. Steves patience and constant motivation is what has kept me so passionate about training and because of these qualities I have slowly reached goals and continue to do so. We are always having a good time, mixing the combos up every session and never ever getting bored. His knowledge of what he is doing makes each class interesting and sure as heck killer in burning calories. What I love most about these sessions is the attention and feedback given to every client during their one on one time which I have never seen anywhere else.
